Dymocks

Located within the iconic heritage-listed Dymocks Building, the Dymocks national office has undergone a significant refurbishment designed by Gray Puksand, delivering a contemporary workspace in line with the changing needs of work.

The refreshed environment has been designed to better facilitate flexible and collaborative working, while paying homage to the unique history of the site.

Naturally a key architectural requirement for the project was the retention of heritage elements, specifically the corridor in the centre of the floorplate, replicated on every floor and originally designed to accommodate a range of boutique stores.

To connect the existing corridor with the workspaces, Gray Puksand incorporate two shared collaboration areas on opposing ends of the space, encouraging coincidental social interactions between staff as they move throughout the floor.

To further support their strategy Gray Puksand incorporated CSM’s Workbars as a key anchor point in the collaboration spaces, constructed from quality Australian steel engineered for high performance spaces.

Finished in Dulux Powder Coat Copper Pearl with Laminex Pale Honey “Pill” Top Finish and Burnt Ochre Laminate Hard Edge the Workbars compliment the light colours and materials of the design curated to contrast against the historic palette featuring original tiles and stained glass, proving the perfect connection between past and present.

With integrated power boxes and dual powered USB, CSM Workbars offer collaboration, connection and storage – together in one footprint. Workbars are easily configurable and can go from meeting zones to lunch breaks in the blink of an eye.

Gray Puksand Partner Donna Wheatley said the project was a rare opportunity to tailor a site with national historic significance to the complex functional needs of modern workspaces.

“Our design strategy focussed on harnessing and celebrating the original fabric of the building, while adapting and future-proofing the existing office space as an exciting, customised place to work for Dymocks staff,” Wheatley said.

CSM’s Evolution Cabinet also was incorporated into the workspace providing increased storage and is convenient access to content. Designed to complement the workstations the CSM Workstation Towers cabinets feature door out pulls and frameless design for seamless side-by-side ganging. We manufacture every unit locally from high quality Australian commercial grade steel so it can endure many years of heavy use.
